I have a Blogger XML file that is 47.9MB. The app I normally use to convert those types of files to WXR says it’s too large.

I cannot find anything on Google that tells me how to convert the XML file to a WXR file so I can then break that into smaller bits and import it to WP.

    Can anyone help me?

I already read that. I have shared hosting and can’t change the upload amount. My only option is converting the XML file to a WXR. This is not usually a problem with the converter app I use, but this one is too large for it.

Have you tried compressing the file or breaking the file up as clearly noted in the link?

My problem is that it’s an XML file and I need it to be converted to a WXR file. AFTER it’s converted, I have no problem breaking it up into smaller pieces. It’s the conversion from XML to WXR I’m having issues with.

Yes, that’s the app I use. I get an error message that the file is too big when I use it. The XML file is 47.9MB.

If I can figure out how to convert it manually to a WXR file, I can break it up into smaller bits easily. It’s the conversion from XML to WXR that is the issue.

Is your Blogger site still running?

Technically. I just changed the nameservers for my domain and now it’s 404 because GoDaddy BLOWS.

If you have a GoDaddy Linux 4GH account, you can set the file upload and max memory in your php5.ini file..now that you have noted this, I suggest studying all the links and going forward only once understood.

Using PHP 5.3 allows increases in these settings…

Why would you change the nameservers?

    (@shan-last-shreds-of-sanity)

I don’t have GoDaddy for hosting, only domain registrar. I’ve changed the nameservers because it was on Blogger & now I’m moving it to WP.

Hence the need to convert the XML file to a WXR file for import of all of my content.

I’ve read all the links. They make no sense and are not the information I need anyway. None of them say anything about converting a Blogger XML file to a WXR file. Unless I missed it.

OK…let’s step back a bit, who is your host? Why were you advised to change nameservers? Why does the import tool not work? Your host. Rid them.

My host is fine. I know the import tool doesn’t work correctly because I’ve had issues before.

I have to change the nameservers because I’m going from a custom domain on Blogger to self-hosted WP. The nameservers must point to my host not Blogger/GoDaddy’s in order for me to have my blog on self-hosted WP.

This is how it works. LOL

Please realize that each question on the way to helping you was a troubleshooting step. Clearly, you have a full grasp now on resolving this issue. Thank you for using WP and good luck.

I still don’t know how to convert a Blogger XML file to a WXR file. That’s been the issue all along.

I got all the other stuff. LOL

I am not sure ‘LOL’ is a good reply to this…again, thanks for using WP.
