I built a site locally registering the wp username with a temporary name and need to change it to another.

The site is live now, but need to change the username. Can I do a fresh wp install without loosing all my content, database, etc?

    Thanks,

Easiest way is to change the username in the database on the live site.

    Cheers!

Yes, you can. But do it using a test site or on your local server and then import into the live site.

Just to add, backup everything first before doing anything. If you are unsure, you can try get assistance from your hosting company for backup.

    Good luck!

It's best not to change a username, simply add the username and password you would like and log out and log in with the new username.

    Then delete the old username.

You do not need your hosting company to back up your site.

For a simple backup you can use this plugin

to move your site from a local install to your hosting try
