    Hi there,

    I’m new to wordpress and have got my site running with it. What I’m trying to do is change the excert that is generated for the post preview. For example one of my posts begins:

    “Klondike Solitaire is the most popular game of Solitaire and is often simply referred to as ‘Solitaire.’ Winning the game involves strategy, skill and a little luck.” – This is the excert that is given as a preview.

    I want to change this to something else, for example:
    “The most popular single player card game played today, the game of solitaire is over 300 years old and is the most popular and widely known single player card game of all time.”

    I’ve had a long look at other posts but I cannot find a way to do so, any help would be great

  • there is a ‘excerpt’ box below the post editor;
    any text typed into that will get shown when your theme uses the function the_excerpt() within the loop of the index template.

    if this field is not there, click the ‘screen options’ tab near the top right on the ‘edit post’ page, and tick ‘excerpt’ – this should open the field.

    Thank you so much Alchymyth!

    Hi Guys,

    Thanks for the answer alchmyth it helped me too!
    I would have one more question though. All of the top/first posts of my pages (homepage and archives) aren’t displaying the excerpt automatically like the other posts do. I don’t know why it is only happening to the posts on the top of my home page and archives pages? I have to set up the excerpt manually (just as you mentioned above) if I want to get one and not an empty space…

    Any idea on how to fix it?

    Thanks,

    @vertfocus, you can discuss that in your own thread.
