Support » Themes and Templates » How to change templates?

  • Hey,
I have just installed my wordpress and I love it. Much better then graymatter and cutenews. Well, I want it to go one with my layout something like this site: http://www.horror-show.org, which is also using wordpress.

And oh, I can’t update changes in templates.

  • 1. You will have to create your own theme.
    See Codex: http://codex.wordpress.org/Blog_Design_and_Layout

    2. The files have to be writable (=chmod with FTP).

Thanks, but what shall I chmod?

You have to chmod the files you want to modify in the Theme Editor.
(of course, for creating a totally new theme I wouldn’t use the built-in Theme Editor – I just make minor typo corrections with it . For a redesign the best way to go is your favorite editor, see also in Codex Glossary.)

thanks again, but to be honest… I have read theeverything on the link you gave me but I have no idea how to make a new template or modify the one I have now.

Edit: by the way I have 1.2.1

OK, seriously, you really have to study more in depth the THEME development section. Notice, I am talking about theme because the “template” means something different in WP lingo. Please, read everything (I mean click on ALL the links in the Templates and Themes section of the page I linked above) .

You can also download several themes and study how they were built.

    Ooooohh…
    Upgrade!
(and it’s good to start by stating what version are you using)
