Support » Theme: WP Knowledge Base » How to change some (minor?) defaults

  • Resolved Russell Wintner

    (@russell-wintner)

    So far, I am loving this site. But for my purposes, I really do not want two things that I cannot get ride of.

    On the default page, I would like not to have Recent Articles nor Popular Articles. Neither makes any sense in context of my audience.

    On the post template, I would like to get rid of the thumbs up button, the count of who liked the article and also get rid of the block about the author.

    Can I get rid of these things? And, if I do, will they come back when I do a future update of the theme or will they persist through any updates?

    Thanks in advance!

    It’s a development site, part of my hosting plan. I can muck around here and then post the completed work to the production site.

    While I have your attention…

    Take a look at the Category Concession. It shows 1 article on the static default page. But you open it and can see that there are in fact 3.

    Am I misunderstanding what this number means, or is there a way to reset the counter (like a reindex)?

    Hi Russell,
    I have installed this theme on my server.
    It look that when you create a page, there you have options to use page templates.
    First is default……another is Knowledge Base Page which contains those two widgets Recent Articles and Popular Articles by default.
    You can change the page template in edit page menu
    or
    You can use some css to not to display those widgets

    put this code to your Child Theme style.css file
    OR
    Install Simple Custom CSS plugin and put the code there.
    I’m doing this on my browser to find solution.
    It can get to some different behavior on your site.
    It can happen that it is not working.
    Then we have to look further.

    .row.kb-home-panels {
    display: none;
    }

    or

    .row.kb-home-panels {
    display: none!important;
    }

    Hope Im helpfull
    I have to leave now
    Will continue
    Cheers

    Can I get rid of these things? And, if I do, will they come back when I do a future update of the theme or will they persist through any updates? YES YOU CAN, IF YOU PUT IT TO THE CHILD THEME style.css or that plugin above, you will not loose any tweaking.

    get rid of the thumbs up button:

    .btn-success {
        display: none;
    }

    or

    .btn-success {
        display: none!important;
    }

    get rid of the block about the author
    Im not 100% sure what you mean
    here is what I think: Posted on February 8, 2016 by rwintner

    .entry-meta.text-muted {
        display: none;
    }

    or

    .entry-meta.text-muted {
        display: none!important;
    }

    I see No. 4 and when I open it there are 4 articles

    Try to clear Browser Cache, sometime it is stubborn browser Caching

    I hope that it is working as you wanted.
    Let me know

    Neither of the two items disappear with the code you provided. I did them each with and then without the !important

    Maybe this diagram will help. It is a screenshot of a post. The portion circled in orange is the entire area I’d like to hide. The section inside the orange marked with a blue line is something that I can live with if needed.

    The counting of the posts on the front page now works! Thank you.

    Hi Russell
    Screen shot show different task then before so:
    put this code to your Child Theme style.css file
    OR
    Install Simple Custom CSS plugin and put the code there.
    I’m doing this on my browser to find solution.
    It can get to some different behavior on your site.
    It can happen that it is not working.
    Then we have to look further.

    I went through you site and all the changes you did were working well.

    Here is what you wanted at first
    HIDE- Recent Articles and Popular Articles by default.
    this is a code:

    .row.kb-home-panels {
    display: none;
    }

    or

    .row.kb-home-panels {
    display: none!important;
    }

    ….but when I open your site, there is NO Recent Articles and Popular Articles visible
    see the screenshot on my site

    Try to clear browser cache. Sometimes you cannot see the changes because browser remembers old site code.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
    …and finally your screenshot task- portion circled in orange:

    .well.author-meta {
        display: none!important;
    }

    ul#nav-below {
        display: none!important;
    }

    p.hidden-xs {
        display: none!important;
    }

    .entry-meta.text-muted.well.well-sm {
        display: none!important;
    }

    Here is a screenshot
    It is working here.
