Support » Fixing WordPress » HOW-TO Change Image File Formats Of WP Default Smilies

  • Greetings~!

I actually am about to update my WP, to v3.8 from 3.7.1, but before I do, I wanted to know if it was possible to change the image file format of the wp default smilies … from .gif to .png. I have custom smilies that are in .png format, which blend nicely with my theme. I am capable of changing the images to .gif, but they lose their quality in the .gif format. Needless to say, I would like to keep them as .png/s. However, I’ve found the references for the smilies in the functions.php, and edited it to remove the smilies that I didn’t want to use; but wondered if that is where I would need to change the formats, as well – or will that need to be done in another file, somewhere else?

Any assistance will be GREATLY appreciated~!

    Thanking You In Advance,
    Lisa

I forgot to mention, I use a program called EditPlus; so if there are any other files (in other formats) that may need an edit, then I should be able to access them w/no problem.
