I am not clear on what you are looking to do exactly ?
Events have their own categories and there is currently no option to just reuse the same categories as the ones you would use for normal WordPress posts.
That being said, there is nothing preventing you from using the same category names and tweaking your WordPress theme to include both category sources in your searches, tags, etc..
