I am trying to change the background of my pages and posts in Twenty Eleven theme to solid black. Right now it is off-black. I have images on my site that are solid black and you can see them against the off-black, which I don't want. My website is http://www.popalchemy.com and here's a link to an image of it with notes showing what I want changed: http://www.popalchemy.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/bgproblem.jpg

    Can you help? Thanks!

All of the above may be achieved with CSS:

To discover what CSS is output by your theme, use a web inspection tool such as Firebug: http://getfirebug.com/ , Chrome Inspect Element: https://developers.google.com/chrome-developer-tools/ or Internet Explorer 9+ F12 Dev. Tools: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd565627(v=vs.85).aspx#csstool

    There are others.

When editing CSS, use a Child Theme
Custom CSS Plugin, or Theme provided custom CSS option.
Edits to parent themes are lost on theme update.

    Learn CSS: http://www.w3schools.com/css/

I have a basic understanding of CSS and I have tried using the "inspect element" function on my Mac. I have tried looking through the CSS for the divs indicated in the inspect element mode, and none of them have a hex color where I can change it.

Also, I tried creating a child theme but when I did, it messed up my site. I figured I just wouldn't be able to update my theme. Is there a way for me to make a child theme or another theme based of the current one I have now, that is altered, so I don't lose my changes if I update?
