I built a site for a client some years ago, and used UpdraftPlus to sync backups to my Dropbox. Some time later they stopped their business and the site died.

That client has resurrected that site on a different domain somewhere, enabled the plugin and its backups are being synced to my Dropbox again. I have no way of contacting them.

Is there any way you can suggest that I can prevent those backups from filling my Dropbox?

  • Hi there,

I’m sorry to say there’s no way to cut the connection other than changing Dropbox details.
The secure link formed to Dropbox via the plugin isn’t something you can remotely cut off.

I have seen this problem before and I’ve explained it using a comparison with an email app.
If a mailbox is set up using the correct credentials the app developer cannot disconnect it.

Though it’s not great changing your Dropbox credentials is likely the best thing you can do.
Otherwise if the client has access they could scan the remote folder for access to all backups.

Which in turn would give them the option of deleting all the backups stored on Dropbox.
If you have important backups stored on the accessible Dropbox I would consider safety.

    Best regards,

    Nick

Ok, I thought that would probably be the case. Thanks for the reply.
