How to Automatically add Unique SKU to Every Product/Product Variation

I NEED to create a unique SKU for every product created in WooCommerce – and this includes all variations of a product. I do not see any check-box option to have this automatically done. This should be automatic to ensure each SKU is unique.

Does WooCommerce do this natively?

If not natively, what is a reliable plug-in that can accomplish this: the key operative word is “reliable”.

Ideally, the auto-generated SKU should perform its function for new products being imported from any data source – like a spreadsheet of product data.

If anyone with experience in this area provide help, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I understand that you need to have a unique SKU for every variation of WooCommerce products.

As you correctly guessed – WooCommerce does this natively. For a product with variations, each of its variations is assigned a different SKU. This is an inbuilt feature and does not need a separate plugin. You can edit the SKUs if you choose to. Apologies for the confusion. It seems that I did not notice I had a plugin installed on my test site some time back, which led to the confusion.

Please be informed that in order to generate unique SKUs you can use the extensions suggested above. You can also choose from the other plugins available.

In the meantime, I’d suggest using a plugin that does the job as Margaret suggested.
