Support » Fixing WordPress » how to assign a post to a category

  • Resolved sophiealbinson

I’ve set up WordPress and have created three categories for my posts (General | Fundraising | Construction) but can’t seem to find a way to actually assign a post to a category before it’s published. Result: Everything is in ‘General’.

I assume that there must be a tickboc, radio button or drop down list somewhere on the ‘Write’ page but am buggered if I can find or activate it!

    Here’s a screenshot.

How how do you assign an article to a category/has my installation gone awry?

    Any advice greatly appreciated!

    Sophie xx

click on that blue box on the right that says, “categories”.

Hi guys, thanks for your help so far..

@whooami: I’ve tired that, I just get a four-way cursor that allows me to re-order the blue boxes.. no options.

@sushubh: Is this what it’s meant to look like?

Do I need to reinstall WordPress?

click on the plus sign inside the blue box. Yes, thats what its supposed to look like.

Try another browser. thats NOT a wordpress issue if you are able to move the boxes around.

Yes, that’s what the Categories area should resemble when it’s expanded.

You might try simply uploading all of the files in wp-admin again – delete the entire wp-admin folder first, then reupload only the wp-admin folder. Might have got corrupted when uploading.

Do that first before going so far as to reinstall.

In some browsers the + sign is not there but still can click on the right end of the blue thing 🙂

aaaah! That really annoying “stupid computer stress” feeling has just taken a walk 🙂 Thanks everyone for helping me out!
