In the 3.3. version I think you might have used Canvas mode. Canvas mode was renamed to Absolute in 3.4:

You can add Absolute layers using the toggle at the Add panel, and switch a Default layer to Absolute at layer window > Style tab > Position:

But we recommend working with Default layers, what you’re using now:

because the responsive behavior is better, and the slide building is much faster. (Although if you have 1 layer only, there’s no significant difference.) Most layouts people want to create can be done with Default layers only, and Absolute mode should only be used for decoration.
