• I have searched WordPress.org using the query ” How to add a sitemap without using a plugin ”

All the search results are related to plugins. I would have thought that the WordPress search facility will filter out results relating to plugins, but it does not, nor does it give any result answering the query..

” How to add a sitemap without using a plugin ”

Some explanation would be much appreciated.

    Thanks – Marek

  • Hello Marek,
You can generate a site map on one of the website such as this one and once you download it you can upload it to your root directory using an FTP client or through your control panel in File Manager.
You can also create an account on Google Webmaster Tools and verify your site and upload it there as well.

    Hi Systemsbox

    Thanks.

I have generated a sitemap and it said to add it to the root directory but I wanted to make sure whether it goes into the ‘public_html’ directory or added into one of the ‘php’ pages in wp-admin > appearance > editor?

But I also would like to know why the WordPress search facility does not filter a query to give relevant results? Any idea about that ?

You have to put it in the same directory where your wp-config.php is located.
No, I don’t know about that.
