    Hi,

I am wondering how oftern RSS gets updated for WordPress 1.5? I am using bloglines and it seems like its getting updated once a day. Is there a way to overwrite the setting so that it gets updated more often, like once in 30 mins?

    Thanks!
    Sarah

  • Your RSS changes everytime you post (or when the feed is requested if you have posted).
Bloglines fetches your feed at certain intervals – and they control that I believe.

Bloglines’ update frequency has nothing to do with WordPress 1.5’s RSS updating. Every time you make a post your RSS is updated in WordPress.

    Hi,

Could you please elaborate on this?
“Your RSS changes everytime you post (or when the feed is requested if you have posted).”
My RSS changes when the feed is requested? How do I request the feed? After I made some post and click on RSS link on my wordpress homepage, I still don’t see my new posts listed there. Is that mean I have some problem?

    Thanks!

    ColdForged,

I know that. I guess my problem is then with my RSS. As I mentioned before, after I make some posts and check RSS, I don’t see the newly posted message there. However if I check it a day later or so, its there..

When you say “check RSS,” what does that mean? Do those new posts show up on your web site? If so, that is the same path the RSS generation code goes through so the posts will show up in the RSS feed when requested. Are you certain that this isn’t a caching issue with whatever you are using to pull your RSS? For instance, if you click on your RSS feed in IE or Firefox, then hard-refresh it, do your new posts show up?

How do I activate RSS feeds?

The feed takes care of itself – honest 🙂

Are you asking how do you get an RSS feed for your site? If you have permalinks active, http://www.yoursite.com/feed/ will fetch your feed. If you don’t have permalinks, http://www.yoursite.com/wp-feed.php will pull it.

    Podz,
Not sure if you were answering me or not but someone asked me if I have rss feeds activated. I don’t know what they are talking about but they want to feed my site to theirs is what I gather. Can you help this greehorn?

What’s your blog address and I’ll tell you.

When you say “check RSS,” what does that mean?
    >By clicking on RSS link under Meta category in my wordpress menu bar on right.

Do those new posts show up on your web site?
    >Yes, it does.

mmm.. its somehow working now.. For the past 2 weeks, the new posts showed up in my RSS feed after a day or so from the posting date/time, and that’s why I thought it gets updated only once a day which kind of didn’t make sense.

    Thanks for all your support!

Feeddemon (my RSS reader) just auto-discovered this from that URL (I didn’t go to your page). Your latest entry starts:
“In the Palm of His Hand
If I were to draw a straight line down the middle of a piece of paper and list all the good things in my life on one side”

    Your feed is just fine.

so it’s automatic? Interesting. Now how do I check other rss feeds for myself?

jlucey – your feeds are at the bottom of your blog.

Other feeds ? You can use a web-based reader (Bloglines / newsgator) or a desktop aggregator (RSSOwl / Abilon)
