Hi
I have 2 types of posts :
– The regular ones are without podcast. Here it is an exemple published yesterday : http://www.live-sim.com/racontez-le-simracing-avec-live-sim/
– Very few post are with a podcast episod. Here it is an exemple published last week : http://www.live-sim.com/en-podcast-avec-arnaud-lacombe/

In podcat feed I will prefer to have only posts with podcast. And it’s not the case as you can see, 1 episod is present, but it’s linked to a post who normally doesn’t have podcast. http://www.live-sim.com/feed/podcast

For me it’s a major issue, because I have a lot more regular post without podcast than with. I can’t warn my listeners that there is a new episode although this is not the case.

How do I configure SSP to have in the feed only posts with podcast ?

I precise that I create podcast in post and not in podcast menu.

thanks for your help. I hope it can be fixed easyly

Some informations for the support.
I know why I have an error, however I don’t know how to fix it.

I have another web site (livesim2.myqnapcloud.com), I used to test plugin. On this site, I duplicate SSP configuration, and created 1 post with podcast. Podcast appears in /feed/podcast with correct article. Then I have created a regular post without podcast. The 2nd post didn’t appear in /feed/podcast. This is a behavior I want to.

However I noticed a major difference. On test site, the post page, doesn’t have a specific options who are in production website. It is Episode Embed Code. I click on SSP Options / General on oEmbed Excerpt and unclick. Then on post page Episode Embed Code appears. And now when i enter a regular post feed is uncorrect as in my production website.

then several questions :
– How to remove Episode Embed Code, in screenshot options ?
– After removing embed code, will the feed be correct ie only post with podcast ?

Thanks for your help. I’m sure you will found a workaround.

Hi @murrey35,

Thank you for getting in touch.

If you embed a shortcode onto a page or post to show a podcast episode this should not show in your feed. I tested this on my local environment and I am unable to recreate the issue.

Is this what you mean by the embed code?

Would you mind sending through a screenshot of your feed details (You may block out any sensitive information) as this is a public forum.

Please let me know.

Hi Andrew
This is not that embed shortcode. I talk about an area called Episode Embed Code in post page.
For exemple : here it is the code created automatically:

Racontez le Simracing avec Live-Sim

I think that is because there is that code, that podcast is modified even if this is a regular post without podcast.

If you want to reproduice, you have to click on oEmbed Excerpt in SSP Options / General and unclick. In my case, in post page, in screen options Episode Embed Code can be ticked and showed.

I hope you understand what I mean.

(@murrey35)

I precise that code is showed in backend post page, apparently only on published posts.

Thank you for the update. I have tested this with the oEmbed Excerpt selected and the post still does not show under the feed.

Has there been any modifications to SSP or custom functionality added to your theme/posts?

You may also check the ‘Podcast post types’ option under Podcast > Settings and deselect posts, this might solve your problem.

Thread Starter murrey35

(@murrey35)

In podcast post types , Post is checked. If I unselect Post, there is nothing in the feed, because podcast are inside 1 post.
I will try to uninstall SSP on my test site, and reinstall to try to be more precise on how my site is configured, to allow you to reproduice my issue.

Note : I haven’t any custom or modifications in SSP or in my theme

Hello Andrew
I have restart my tests :
1. I have reload a new site without SSP
2. I update everything
3. I have installed SSP and SS Stats
4. I have configured SSP settings like in site where feed is wrong
5. I create a post with podcast => Post is in the feed
6. I create a regular post without podcast => Post is not in the feed => this is a normal behaviour.

My duplicate site is correct. Then I don’t know what I can check on my real production site. I have access to the table. Can you tell what I can check ?

We have published a new post without podcast on friday, and podcast feed (http://www.live-sim.com/feed/podcast) has been updated. If you click on “Pas de Miracle à Road America”, you can see it is not a podcast post.

I’m sure something is incorrect in that site. Settings are the same than in my other sites. I’ m trying to compare mySql DB but it ‘s not funny. Do you have clues?

Hi @andrewza
Can you help me ?

Here it is a summary of my pb. As soon I publish a regular post, podcast feed is updated and show the regular post linked to the latest podcast.

I have another site with the same plugins, and the same theme, and SSP on the other site is correct.

– is there something I can do in settings to fix it ?
– is there a log or a debug to activate to see where it’s wrong ?
– is there something I have to change in mysql to check where should be the pb ?
– Is there a way to remove completely SSP before to reinstall it ?

Hello Andrew
I found how to reproduce the issue. I think it’s a bug you didn’t detect. Here it is my process.
1. Podcast Settings are :
– in General : Podcast post types : Posts
– In General : Media Player locations are : None
2. I create a post with podcast directly in the post while using “Podcast Episode Details” area. Inside the post I enter the following shortcode (as you mention in https://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-add-a-player-in-the-middle-of-article-with-shortcode/) :
[podcast_episode episode=”1877″ content=”player”]
(where 1877 is the post ID number)
=> Result :
Post is in the podcast feed
3. I create a regular post without podcast
=> Result (KO):
The regular post is in the Podcast feed. And the podcast from the previous post is attached to the regular post
4. In the post created in 2. I delete the shortcode and update the post.
Result :
Podcast feed is OK. Only post with podcast created in 2 is present.

Conclusion: Shortcode is the root cause of the issue. Either my syntax is incorrect or the case is “misscoding”.

Can you then confirm that you can reproduce the issue ?

• This reply was modified 6 years, 11 months ago by murrey35.

Hi @murrey35,

I sincerely apologize for the delay.

Let me try and recreate this issue, I am going to get the SSP developers involved regarding this too for you!

Really sorry about this, I will update you shortly.

I have tested this @murrey35, and I am unable to recreate the issue.

I have added shortcode to a normal post using [podcast_episode episode=”1877″ content=”player”] (with my correct episode ID).

I set my settings to the same as yours under the ‘General’ tab and it doesn’t add the post to the feed.

Would you be able to temporarily disable all plugins except Seriously Simple Podcasting and set your theme to TwentySeventeen (or other default theme) to see if the issue continues?

Thread Starter murrey35

(@murrey35)

Hello Andrew.
Thank you to care about my pb.
Just to be sure : Did you create 2 posts ? The first must be with the podcast and the shortcode and the second one with text, but without shortcode or podcast.

On http://livesim2.myqnapcloud.com/ I have disabled all the plugins except SSP and SSP Stats. I have changed the theme to Twenty Fifteen, I have kept only the 2 articles to reproduce the pb.

On http://livesim2.myqnapcloud.com/feed/podcast, the second post (the regular one) appears, instead of the first one.

I’m waiting fo your comments on how to fix the pb.

Hi Andrew
I have tested another thing. I have tried to reproduce the issue on a fresh wordpress install. The result is ok. I can’t reproduce on a new install.

Then it means something is wrong in my site, even if I use the same theme and the same activate plugins (ssp ans ssp stats).

Then I don’t know how to find out the root cause. Can you please give me ways to search ?
