Support » Everything else WordPress » How much will a wordpress.org website cost me?

  • Hi,

I’m looking to set up a blog using wordpress.org rather than .com due to it’s suitability towards professional rather than personal blogs and websites (I am a complete beginner).
I wanted to know around how much will it cost me – both initially and annually/monthly. All I’m looking for on my website at the moment is a blog (eventually, I hope to sell products etc.) that I will update regularly. I’m not looking for fancy plugins etc. at
the moment and I want to do it for the least amount possible, but to still have a functioning website, I just want to know the costs of the essentials I will need (security etc.). As I said I’m a total beginner so please assume I know nothing.

    Thanks – Matt.

The only fixed cost you need to incur for your site is hosting. You can get themes and plugins for free from wordpress.org/themes and wordpress.org/plugins

If you choose to hire a developer, costs vary by location, expertise, time of day, and the local price of coffee. But that’s up to you. Generally, WordPress, right out of the box, will do most of what you want.
