  • I’ve heard about WP-powered sites getting flooded with trackback spam of late. I’ve been hit, but it’s nothing I would call a “flood”. I’ve had spam-fighting tools in place for a while, specifically for comment spam, and those seem to work great. I’m assuming they’re killing off most of the trackback junk heading my way, but I have no way of seeing that comparatively.

So, my question: How much trackback/pingback spam have you gotten, before and after installling spam-blocking plugins? Has it been a trickle (3 or 4 a day), or a true flood (hundreds daily)?

  • I was just getting a trickle at Netaloid until November. Then the volume gradually increased and, by the middle of January it was a gusher.

Spam Karma and Spam Refer, in conjunction with some .htaccess scripting, have pretty much choked off the spam.

However, it always annoyed me to see these characters using my blog to increase their spam fees.

Today I am happy to report that I’ve discovered a way to strike back. At least at the guy I call the Poker Spamster, who has been responsible for 80% of my comment/referral log spam or more.

The scripts and plugins are all well and good, but this method puts us on the offense for once and hits the guy right in the wallet.

    The full story is here.

I was being flooded a few days ago, but Spam Karma was taking care of it.
