How much access to the WP's installation has a WP theme?

    Hello.

    Apologies if my english is bad. 😀

    The question is this: How much access to the WP’s installation may have a WP theme?

    looking for a theme, I ended up a warez site where I could download (free, of course) a (much) premium theme of payment.

    I distrusted…

    If I were a malicious PHP programmer, could I insert code that after installing the theme on a site read the username and password of the database (which are in plain text in wp-config.php) and send them to an FTP server mine, for example?

    Would that be possible? Can a theme access all files on the site that is?
