  • Say I have a web server with the following stats:

    P4 3 Ghz
    2 gigs of ram
    300 gig hard drive
    100 meg unmetered connection

I want to run multiple blogs, a lot of blogs, all low traffic…maybe 500 hits each per day…so I’m trying to figure out how many blogs I can run on each server before it slows down. 10…100…1000? Any theories? Anyone with any experience running hundreds of blogs on their own domains?

There’s no real limitation. You can run them until you run out of bandwidth and CPU. Getting 500 hits each on two blogs is really not very different from getting 1000 hits on one blog.

However, you might want to look into the multi-user version of wordpress instead. It is geared more towards running lots and lots of “separate” blogs.

I looked at the multi-user version but it doesn’t appear to support separate domains for each blog? I need each blog to be on a different domain.

If it is about hosting hundreds of domains – it is not really a WP issue. It is about how much space is allocated for each domain, how big the DB will be in order to handle the posts: it is not the same to have 100 posts or 8,000 posts in a blog… If you host hundreds of domains on a machine does it matter what kind of software is used to manage those websites?
I think you should seek some more professional answers on a forum that is specialized in hosting issues.
