# how does WP send mail?

 * I’m building a self hosted [site](http://www.charliegooddog.org/wordpress/) I’ve
   configured it so anyone can register. I tried registering a couple of test users
   using email addresses i have. I got a registration successful message saying 
   an email was sent. Email was never sent. Do I need to load WP in the root for
   this to work?

 * WP doesn’t have to be installed in the root for email to work. Did you check 
   the spam folder of the email used to register?

 * Nevermind, I just tested it and didn’t receive an email either. Feel free to 
   delete that user (test).

 * I’m wondering if WP has it’s own email engine? I don’t think I ever setup an 
   email account with godaddy.

 * You don’t have to set up an email account for WP to send out emails. Godaddy?
   Ugh. Do you have linux hosting or windows hosting?

 * Ah. That’s why. For future reference, you should go with linux. Much better… 
   as better as Godaddy can get that is but I digress. Anyway, I found this article:

 * PS: You can switch from windows to linux if I remember correctly but I’m not 
   quite sure how that works so I’d research it first so your entire site doesn’t
   go down the drain.

 * I intentionally got a Windows account so I could use Coldfusion.
    Your suggestion
   worked!! One hurdle cleared thanks.
