How does WordPress create a page

Hi,

I am in the process of making a local copy of my live site. I currently end up at the wamp server page when clicking on any of the links. I also cannot log on. Does anybody know of a tutorial explaining the process wordpress goes through to create a page or post, this way I will learn exactly why my links are not ending up as pages.
