How does two-column themes work? Can you post in both? (5 posts)

I've had a single column blog for some years now. And I'm quite happy with WordPress.

Now, I've bought a new domain, and I'm considering making it into a new blog. This time, I want two collumns.

The reason is, I want to be able to post in both. I don't want callendars, statistics, links or anything in the second column. This column will be purely dedicated to picture-related posts, and possibly have a shoutbox on the top or bottom.

Is this possible to do with two-column theme? Lets say I chose to "Write new post". Can I choose which column it will be published in?

Yes, it is very possible to do something like this with WordPress.

You might want to look into using the Query Posts widget.

Your theme would have to be widgetized as well, however nowadays most themes are widgetized anyway, so hopefully that wouldn't be a problem.

Hmmm, I don't see why that should help me. I know how to use WordPress. I've coded the CSS and PHP of my current blog. Mostly this is the colors and sizes, not much else.

And why is it so hard to search up themes now?
Before, you could just click to search only two column themes, only after one color, only new themes etc. Now you can't...

If I download a random two-column theme, with widgets enabled. Will I be able to achieve this instantly?

Cause I've picked out three candidates for a new site. Pixel, Dark Smoke, and Streamline.

    So these are:
    Pixel: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/pixel
    Streamline: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/streamline
    Dark Smoke: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/dark-smoke

Are any of these compitable with posting in each column?
