# How does trackback/pingback work?

 * I can’t seem to figure out how the trackback/pingback thingie works.
 * Say, I have a post regarding a certain issue, it’s located at: [http://evenstarr.org/blog/?p=71](http://evenstarr.org/blog/?p=71)
 * A friend of mine has a post regarding the exact same thing, located right here:
   [http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24](http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24)
 * How do I go about making a trackback which will show up beneath his post or in
   his comments? I have tried using both [http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24](http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24)
   and [http://hardstyler.net/blog/](http://hardstyler.net/blog/) in the trackback
   field when posting my entry and when editing it, but nothing happens. Same goes
   the other way around.
 * When I edit the post on my site, it already says that [http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24](http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24)
   and [http://hardstyler.net/blog/](http://hardstyler.net/blog/) has been pinged.

 * To send a pingback to [http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24](http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24)
   simply link to [http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24](http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24)
   in your post. To send a trackback to [http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24](http://hardstyler.net/blog/?p=24)
   just add [http://hardstyler.net/blog/wp-trackback.php?p=24](http://hardstyler.net/blog/wp-trackback.php?p=24)
   to the Trackback URL field when posting.
 * A few important notes:
 * 1. The pinged blog author may be moderating or instantly deleting pingbacks and
   trackbacks, so your pingback and/or trackback may take some time to appear, or
   it may never appear.
 * 2. The pinged blog author does not display any trackback links for his posts,
   so he may not want to receive any trackbacks.

 * I have not disabled trackbacks, nor has my friend. So that shouldn’t be the problem.
 * I tried using the [http://hardstyler.net/blog/wp-trackback.php?p=24](http://hardstyler.net/blog/wp-trackback.php?p=24)
   for trackbacking when posting on my own website, and it works just fine. Same
   goes the other way around from his site to mine.
