Within 48 of making the switch to WP, someone registered a new account and sent me an email asking for posting privelleges. I checked out her web site, (I think it’s a her) and gave the account posting privelleges.
Now that I think about it, I’ll probably approve just about anyone who asks to join the team. But if do that, why not give new users posting privilleges by default? I suppose requiring new users to send a brief email discourages those who only desire to cause damage.
So for those who have groupblogs, how do you deal with new users?
It would be really nice if there was a system that required low level users to have their postings approved before they are published, but I haven’t been able to find a plugin that would do this. In fact, it seems that only CMS tools like Scoop and PHPnuke allow this kind of functionality, which would be overkill for my site.

In 1.2 you will have two options
    –Anyone can register
    –All registered users can post.
I guess that’s what you are looking for.

@haasim, I am sorry if my answer wasn’t quite upto mark. Your typing something in bold makes it look like you’re shouting, and remember: You always get the answer to the question you ask. If you ask a badly worded question, you get a bad answer.
What exactly do you mean when you say
Do group blogs admins have some kind of criteria for deciding who gets approved for posting privileges?
That’s a personal decision. If I had a group blog about, say, photography, I would expect posts to be related to photography.
If a user who posts makes too many irrelevant posts, I take away his membership.
If you want a better answer, wait around.

I aplogize if I offened you somehow, 2fargon. I thought only ALL CAPS were used for shouting.
And yes it was a badly worded question that rambled quite a bit, but I was in a rambling kind of mood and I just want to stir up a conversation. I wasn’t really looking for a difinitive answer.
I was hoping people would show some examples of group blogs using WordPress and maybe share some stories about the pros and cons of having a team of users with posting priveleges.
Again, I apologize if I appeared annoyed with your response, that wasn’t my intent.

No haasim, It’s perfectly fine. I am sorry if I sounded too curt. If you want to have a good conversation, the #wordpress IRC channel on freenode is a good place. Users who run group blogs might give you better ideas, those above were mine.
    🙂
