Support » Installing WordPress » How does one get Upload file to work?

  • I’m developing on a Windows machine with Apache installed. I get the same error that many others have had with uploading, but I can’t seem to resolve it. Changing the paths to forward slash does not solve the problem. Also, since I’m using apache (IIS isn’t installed) I have no way to set permissions for ‘IUSER’. I’m pretty sure I’ve set the permissions correctly – well, about as good as I can get under windows. Still I”m getting the same message:
“It doesn’t look like you can use the file upload feature at this time because the directory you have specified ( C:/Program Files/Apache/htdocs/wordpress/images_2/) doesn’t appear to be writable by WordPress. Check the permissions on the directory and for typos.”
    This is what I have:
    ‘Destination Directory:’ C:/Program Files/Apache/htdocs/wordpress/images_2/
    ‘URI of this directory:’ http://localhost/wordpress/images_2
I’ve tried all variations of paths and yet nothing seems to work! What am I doing wrong?

  • The error message isn’t about the permissions for the “user”, it’s about the permission (chmod) for the directory. It should be writeable.

Thanks for the response, but I’ve given the folder and ‘Everyone’ write permission and still it doesn’t want to upload. I think it may have to do with the path rather than anything else.
