When creating a website for an entity,

Do you use themes from wordpress repository and modified it to cope for that needs?

    OR

Do you always start from scratch?

I have been developing wordpress websites from scratch since I self-studied it myself and never knew anyone’s technique on tackling site development using wordpress. I create my own theme called jumpstart and thats where I always started, basically its just foldering and has empty files in it.

I do almost the same as you. I start with a completely cut-down version of a default theme, taking away all of the CSS, and leaving only the base template files like index.php, sidebar.php, etc. From there I build up the theme to be what it needs to be. Because our client base is so different it’s normally a bad thing to have any more built into a base them this.

I start from a blank theme like “blankslate”, but that’s because I’m a front-end developer.

I prefer _s myself. I’ve also got about 30 of my own themes that I can strip down as needed.

I’ve recently made my own theme starting from “blankslate” and then looking into other themes for various solutions to fit my needs. Got tired of creating child themes from a theme I didn’t quite understand.
