Support » Fixing WordPress » How do I REPLACE the missing 3 front scrolling sections on Twenty Seventeen?

Hi, I’ve been reading the forum (and dummy books) for a couple of weeks to even ARTICULATE THIS QUESTION:

i started learning WP on my http://www.erikalopez.com site and to get at least ONE page up with the TWENTY SEVENTEEN THEME, no children involved. i (think) i simply deleted the template images that were still coming up with stock photos.

but now i cannot see how to set the missing sections back up on the front page template.

OR is this a wrong assumption? i haven’t yet begun to build additional pages and am wondering: if i start to BUILD THE PAGES, WILL THEY THEN SHOW UP back on the front scrolling section? / no that makes no sense because i’d have to upload IMAGES somewhere for them to show up on front yes?

reading the forum, i seem to have missed the option to simply “UN-CHECK” the pages. but i DO remember a page asking me to choose one or more columns and now i cannot even find THAT.

anyhow, in deleting them, i never actually emptied any “trash,” so maybe i have not deleted the CSS CODE???

and if i’m missing code do i really have to go into the FTP thing and delete and re-install the TWENTY SEVENTEEN theme? that’s a whole can of worms i’d rather avoid if at all possible because browser horribly out of date and can’t get filezilla and i’ll lose another decade of life to this.

can i just re-paste the missing front panels code somehow SOMEWHERE? (i’ll figure out how to get missing code later)

i was digging this as the site i’m doing looks good for quitting web stuff for a decade, but now i’m stuck hard. real hard.

thanks for any advices. the forums already taught me how to do a single column so i’m happy.

    >> WILL THEY THEN SHOW UP <<

No, not automatically. Go to the customizer and click “theme options”. There, you can choose the pages that appear in panels on the home page. The image used is the one you assign as the featured image for that page.

WOW you’re MAGIC. i can’t believe how SIMPLE that is! and i was actually just now raging around the apartment about how i got suckered back into tech and will watch my life pass me by after all i learned! no lie… i was having an Existential rant and my elder friend who turned me on to WP said, “YOU’RE DOING CODE? BACK AWAY! NO CODE!”

So, Dear Steve Stern– thanks for making it ridiculously SIMPLE and Have a Wonderful NEW YEAR! i was going CRAZY reading/re-reading and clicking and … just THANK YOU for taking the TIME.

big huuuuge massive kiss on the cheek!

    Dear Mr Stern–
ah! i’ve been going through my dashboard all over, and am apparently MISSING that “THEME OPTIONS” option you mentioned. THAT’S why i never saw it before (i’d felt silly).

Early on i realized i was also missing the color selector for doing custom color BACKGROUNDS, which made me disappointed because i LOVE custom color options.

how do i replace both of these functions if they were missing from jump?

THAT SAID, LIFE IS PROFOUNDLY SHORT AND IF THIS IS ANOTHER FUTURE LIFETIME’S JOURNEY, SO BE IT. I CAN LIVE WITH EVERYTHING I HAVE NOW AND LINK PAGES AND LIVE WITH THE COLOR I’VE GOT.

    thanks–

You won’t see theme options unless you’ve created some pages, so make sure you have some pages. see See https://i.imgur.com/nI4Drkz.png

This theme does not have custom backgound colors, but there are some plugins that extend it: https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/twentyseventeen

aha! THAT IS THE KEY THEN: “THEME OPTIONS” WON’T SHOW UP TIL I MAKE THE PAGES!

and thank you for the link regarding custom background colors.

(this is hella fun when there’s a breakthrough / it’s empowering as i dig the philosophy of ALL this.)

    thanks again, Teacher.

Brother Stern, you have changed my trajectory. No lie. i was blue and facing this wall i’d hit over a week ago and all that page and the plugins? HOLY COW… i’m off and running!

really. you’ve gotta KNOW this. i was stumped and stuck. now i’ve been re-invigorated with inspiration. i downloaded a few plugins and it’s a whole NEW world.

    flying again…

thanks sooo much. huuuuuge smile to you!
