Support » Plugin: Ultimate FAQ » How do I nest parent and child categories correctly?

  • I want my FAQ to be structured with Major categories and Minor categories under each Major, for example:

    Major 1
    – Minor 1A
    – – Question 1Ai
    – – Question 1Aii
    – – Question 1Aiii
    – Minor 1B
    – – Question 1Bi
    – – Question 1Bii
    Major 2
    – Minor 2A
    – – Question 2Ai

Currently, I have my major topics as parent categories and my minor topics as my child categories, which works in theory but not in practice. Currently, each question that is the Major category is showing under the Major category heading, and the appropriate minor category heading, meaning each question is displaying twice. Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Hi Christine,

Could you send us the link to your website’s FAQ page?

    Major Category: 401(k)
    Minor Category: Your Contributions

    Hi Christine,

Sorry, just a quick follow up question: will there be any questions that appear in the “401(k)” category only (i.e. not appear in a subcategory, only appear in the top level)?

If not, a workaround would be to list the Major category title as plain text with the ‘include_category’ attribute below that generates the “Your Contributions” questions.

For example, here’s some code you can try pasting to replace what’s currently on http://staging.nwcm.com/faq-2/:

    <h1>401(k)</h1>
    [ultimate-faqs include_category='slug-name']

Note: make sure to replace slug-name with the actual slug of the “Your Contributions” category.

No, the so-called Major Categories will only have Minor Categories, not Questions.

Thank you! This works, but it would be cool if it happened automatically in the plugin in the future 🙂

I’m going to use another plugin to build toggles for each Major Category so it functions this way – anyone reading this can check back in a day or two to see how it turns out.

    Hi Christine,

    Thanks for the suggestion 🙂

We’ve noted this as a feature request and will discuss the viability of implementing it in a future update.
