How do I experiment with different themes without losing settings? (3 posts)

I don't know how to check what version of WP I am using...

I was using Reddle theme and decided to change the look, but I lost all the widget settings in my sidebar. This had images and links etc. and I need to get it back. How do I test drive new themes without losing my original to revert to? I've read a bunch of these FAQs and found nothing that works. If I activate Reddle I get the template with some of my widgets but not the custom widgets I had designed with images of my books, etc.

I've used this plugin in the past http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/widget-saver/

But, if you set your widgets and header up for a theme, then try out a new one and don't like it, if you go back to the old theme, your widgets and everything should stay the same.

Thanks. I downloaded the .zip and then unpacked it and got two php files and a css. The readme.txt file said:
"Install and activate the plugin as usual."

Sorry, but I'm not familiar with "as usual." Can you tell me how to install it for WordPress? I assumed it was a plug-in (add-on?) for my web browser (Firefox), but perhaps that's wrong.
