# How do I do this – Please Help!

 * hi all. i am new to wordpress and i hav a problem.
 * i want to show only a part of every article and provide a link to read more on
   the index page. i have seen this working on some blogs.
 * so someone please tell me how to do this.

 * You will need to replace `the_content` with `the_excerpt` in your theme’s `index.
   php` file. Note that this will strip all images, links etc.
    For more control,
   have a search for the excerpt_reloaded plugin and use that instead.
