Support » Plugin: Advanced Sidebar Menu » How do I create a Sidebar Menu with expanded Sub Menus?

    Hi,

I’d like to create a sidebar menu with the same Menu/Sub Menu principle as on this website:
    http://mitjakobal.com

Can I do that with this plugin and if yes, how?

I put the “Advanced Sidebar Pages Menu” and “Advanced Sidebar Categories Menu” widgets in the “Sidebar Widget Area”, but no changes at all appear on the website. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m not using the plugin correctly, or is it a technical glitch?

Thank you in advance for your help,
    Barbara

Here’s a screenshot of how I set it up in the Sidebar Widget Area (I just wanted to test it if it works)

    Hi Barb,

This could be accomplished by setting assigning the Menu item as parent pages to sub menu pages.

    For instance:

A page titled “no place for a man” would have it’s parent page assigned to a page called “Fresh Baked”.

Once the pages are assigned to with the appropriate parent child relationships, the menus will display when viewing any page that is part of the menu.

Categories work in the same way and the category menu will display when viewing any category that is part of the menu.

The PRO version supports assigning WordPress menus to sidebars and displaying the menu on all pages such as your home page.

    Hope this helps!

I have been struggling to understand why the plugin doesn’t show any menu. I’m using the Categories plugin. I had the usual sidebar menu and added this one but I only saw the original. When I remove the default sidebar widget and try to only use this plugin nothing displays.
“Categories work in the same way and the category menu will display when viewing any category that is part of the menu.”
On the Front page when I try it no categories or menu are displayed. I have not touched the actual default structure of the wordpress architecture (ie. parent, inherit, etc.)
How would I tell the plugin which (I want all) categories to display? I’m assuming that sub-categories need to be set as the child from the parent but so far I can’t see anything.

“The PRO version supports assigning WordPress menus to sidebars and displaying the menu on all pages such as your home page.”
I am trying to do this for the Sidebar. Is that the problem? Whenever I try to set a Sidebar to Category pages it doesn’t work with any sidebar because of the page format, I’m assuming. Would the Pro version help with that at all?

    Hi Mat,
Just wanted to thank you for the reply. I’ll try it out – hope it will work.
    Best,
    Barbara
