[Resolved] How do I change where clicking on an image takes me?

    HELP!!
I have been searching for hours and can’t find a forum post that seems to apply to my situation.

I am using WP for my website. With the theme that is set up, in order to get images (or other content) into the body of the page, I have to just “Add Media” into the main window of the “Edit Page” area.

Here’s my problem…. After I have added an image, I go to the page and it is there fine, but when I click on it it goes to what I think is my default page layout (complete with header and footer) with the image name(in text) and the image in the body of the page.
How do I change that, some i want to link to other content and others I don’t want to link anywhere and others I want to link to the image its self, but I definitely do not want that default page.

Can you replicate the problem using the default Twenty Fourteen theme with all plugins deactivated?

I’m not sure… Can I switch themes without loosing all the stuff I have set in the various features of this theme (which by the way is just a custom thing with a few bells and whistles developed by the person who setup the site long before I got here)
and if not can I backup everything and restore it should things go awry?

There is no magic bullet in these situations. This is just basic troubleshooting – a process of elimination deliberately designed to locate the root cause as quickly as possible by first removing the most obvious and common culprits via a series of (often) temporary steps.

Your theme & plugin settings are saved in your database and should be retained for future use.

yes, it does the same thing…. I can go to the product page and when I click on the image it sends me to a default page with the image and name in the body.

** I did what you suggested and deactivated all plug ins and changed themes adn the results were the same.**

Change to what? At present, you told WordPress to provide a link to that image’s attachment page when you inserted it.

in that specific case I will end up having it link to a pdf of our catalog. on some of the other pages i want to set the link to another page or whatever.
how do I change the link?
I have tried changing it on the image details in the media on the edit page
I have tried changing in on the actual media.
I have tried to change the permalinks (although I may have been doing that one wrong)

I re read what you said and figured out the issue…. when I am inserting the media to the page i HAVE TO specify where I want it to link to. I completely missed that.

Can I change that link once it is embedded or do I have to remove and re-insert all the images?

Forget it…. Such a NOOB… once I realized where the linking was being set, I figured it all out… I see it there on the edit page… Thanks.
