    How do I change the awful light blue color of the links in Buddypress?

    Appearance is set by the CSS code:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/CSS

    If you need more specific help, you'll need to post a link to your site so someone can see the code live.

    If you are talking about the first page that appears (not the forums), those links are being styled by the CSS code on line 503 of the bp default.css file:

    a {
        color: #1FB3DD;
    }

    cool thanks... is there a way of changing the forum colors too?

    Sure, you can change anything like that in the CSS code -- read the Codex on CSS and use a tool such as Firebug to easily identify which CSS code you need to change.
