  • 1. It’s in the root folder of your WP installation.
    2. Don’t. Let WP make all the changes.
    3. No.

it should be in the same folder where you have installed wordpress (where your wp-config.php file is located). If it is not there, you can create one..

If you’re needing to edit .htaccess because you’re moving WordPress to a different folder, site, wherever, let WordPress do the editing to the file. It’s an invisible file in the main folder of your WP files.

See this for more info if you’re moving WordPress:

    Hello,

What if there is no .htaccess in the wordpress instalation, using WordPress 2.8.2 and I need to add or edit .htaccess in order to make server run PHP5.

    And…

Is there a way to make wordpress create an htaccess for me?

    Thank you,
    Aguitta.

The .htaccess gets generated when you turn on non-default Permalinks.

    Cool!. Thank you Otto.

I actually just added a blank document and added the code I needed. (Code asked server to use PHP 5 INSTEAD OF PHP 4) and named it .htaccess

I dont know much about .htaccess, usually stay away from that and let the CMS do its thing. But this seemed to work.
    Cheers,
    Aguitta.
