• Hello all, my first post…

Just coming into have a play with wordpress, previously my mission was to create a fully functional photography website using traditional html, after a few weeks of learning the basics it occurred to me that it would be a huge management and maintenance overhead, which seems to have been solved by wordpress to some degree.

The question I have is how close can I get to working from my previous design template?

    http://www.elliotnewman.com/index/design.html

I would like the website to have online ordering for customers interested in prints, I assume wordpress does not restrict functionality like this? Also do you all recommend signing up to graph paper press in a bid to control the design more tightly?

    Thanks,
    Elliot.

  • You can do that exact design and functionality with WordPress.

I’ve been reading through the documentation, and as I understand it, you essentially modify the CSS based on a chosen theme? for example make the content area wider, change the background color and swap it for an image etc

Or you can use you existing design, add a style.css with the theme header, and replace the parts of the site you want WordPress to replace with a template tag, and then expand and do more from there.
