• I am creating a fitness franchise website that will offer a main blog with information about the entire franchise and health tips.

I would also like to achieve the following:

    • each individual franchisee location to have its own section on the website with their own blog with news specific to their location and could also offer/display information from the main fitness site
    • I would also like the main fitness franchise website to easily offer specific information from each specific franchisee

Essentially: how can you easily share blog content across a Multi-site or standard install so that http://www.fitness.com can share information AND media library with fitness.com/specific-franchise (even though this is an entirely different install of wordpress)?

  • Not easily.

At best, it’s a kludgy workaround.

each site is designed as a stand-alone site, much like the individual blogs at wordpress.com.

While you can, it’s most definitely not built in. And you;re looking at getting some custom plugins built.

    Thanks for your feedback!

I found the Multipost-MU plugin and it is working fine so far:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/multipost-mu/

I was also going to try out this as well:
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-sitewide-tags/

One plugin allows posting to all sites the other collects all posts. Will this be a problem in the future? Its working well so far.

ALSO: How can you share Media content easily? That’s the next step.

It seems that you’re trying to adapt WordPress which is suited as a standalone blog into a multi-site content management system (CMS) when a more specialized CMS script may be more appropriate.

I would recommend looking at Typo3 as a possible CMS candidate, though it must be noted that it has a steep learning curve and can become quite complex, however, that complexity pays off with flexibility – so it depends if your site setup would benefit from it.

Don;t use both at once. 🙂

One of those pushes posts to the blogs you select – blogs that you are the admin of.

The other pulls all blogs posts from all sites to the main site or a “tags” blog.

Neither of them do either of what you asked for in your OP, which is why I didn’t suggest them. 🙂 There’s no real picking and choosing going on and neither do anything with a shared media pool.

I’m trying to do something similar to this… I have a client with an existing 260+ page website. He’s opening a new branch of his company in a different city, and wants to have a second site for the new location. The new website would share about 250 pages with the old site and have ten pages with location-specific content.

The client wants any edits on those 250 “shared” pages to be reflected on the new website.

Would Multipost MU be able to do something like that?
