• In the settings the “default gravatar to use” gives a url of http://use.perl.org/images/pix.gif. I just noticed that this slows down the loading of my pages as it gives this address in the bar when stalling. Why would it try to access this url anyway when I have MonsterID set up? When I try to leave the default gravatar field empty the use.perl url pops right back in. I dont have any other url to use but I guess I could set one up if need to be.

This is really annoying since I believe I even got internal server errors from this today. What’s going on? I never noticed “use.perl.org” in the loading bar before and I have been having my site for over a year now. At first I actually thought it was some unauthorized script….

Anyway, any advice and feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

    WordPress 2.7.1? 🙁

You should upgrade if that really is the version you’re running for security reasons.

Anyhoo, you might find that code is hardcoded into your theme, so perhaps having a look through your comments.php file might be worth a shot too.

It shouldnt be related to the theme or any plugin incompatibilities. I have been running my theme since the beginning just along with the gravatar plugin, and all the other plugins I have had installed for many months now too.

Anyway, I went into the gravatars.php and just erased the “use.perl.org” from it. How come I didnt think of this before? 😉

Still would like to know why it was trying to load that url in the first place and why it was stalling…probably a gravatar server issue.
