• How can I display both the caption and title of the native WordPress gallery images?

    Currently the WordPress gallery displays only the caption for the image by default. I would like to display the Title of the image as well.

    I tried altering the gallery code from media.php by adding the following altered code to my themes functions.php. The result just made the gallery not work. Am I even getting close?

    <?php

    remove_shortcode( 'gallery' );

    function my_gallery_shortcode( $attr ) {
    	$post = get_post();

    	static $instance = 0;
    	$instance++;

    	if ( ! empty( $attr['ids'] ) ) {
    		// 'ids' is explicitly ordered, unless you specify otherwise.
    		if ( empty( $attr['orderby'] ) ) {
    			$attr['orderby'] = 'post__in';
    		}
    		$attr['include'] = $attr['ids'];
    	}

    	/**
    	 * Filter the default gallery shortcode output.
    	 *
    	 * If the filtered output isn't empty, it will be used instead of generating
    	 * the default gallery template.
    	 *
    	 * @since 2.5.0
    	 *

    	 *
    	 * @param string $output The gallery output. Default empty.

    All I did was add the following code next to where it calls the image caption/excerpt.

    if ( $titletag && trim($attachment->post_title) ) {
    			$output .= "
    				<{$titletag} class='wp-title-text gallery-title'>
    				" . wptexturize($attachment->post_title) . "
    				</{$titletag}>";
    		}
