    Hi there,

If you want to allow a product to be backordered, you have a choice of 2 options from under the Product data » Inventory tab. You can either Allow, but notify customer, or you can just Allow.

Backorder options - Do not allow, Allow but notify, or just Allow

Both of them will allow the stock to dip below 0, but with the first option set on the product the order will look like this:

Meta data recorded with items that were set to Allow, but notify

And with the second option selected it looks like this:

No meta data on items that were set to only Allow

So, going forward, it would save some effort to set backorders to just Allow. For your current orders that say Backordered already, you can change the status of the order to On Hold instead of Processing. This will allow you to edit the items.

An On Hold order allows items of the order to be edited

You can then remove the meta data, click Save below the totals, and change the order status back to Processing or Completed depending on your workflow.

Item meta data can be removed

    Hope that helps!

Thank you for description. I know that I can edit in status On Hold but I wonder if I change the status from Processing in On Hold and after edit in Processing again if the system will send the woocommerce status emails to the customer.

Yes, by default the user will get status updates when their order changes.

There is a way to disable that, but it would affect all events where the order status changes to that particular status, but you can do it temporarily.

Go to WooCommerce » Settings » Emails, and click the Manage Button next to either Order on-hold or Processing order. From the next screen, you are able to toggle Enable/Disable for each respective email.

When disabled, that particular email will not be sent when an order changes to that status.

    Hi, this is the problem
Customer should get the email to know in which status the order is but not an Email if admin in Backend disable the backorder to prepare the shipping papers & invoice if the good is in stock again.

To enable this meta in Backorder it should be possible for admin in each status without change it to order on-hold.
