I am trying to add additional fields to Magic Action Box. How can I do this?
My site is wedivine.org
No problem. Just ad the text fields that you want using your newsletter autoresponder. The fields are based of what you put in your newsletter opt-in. You can see the quick start guide here: http://www.magicactionbox.com/quick-start-guide/
Hey, thanks for you prompt response!
Is there a free autoresponder you recommend? I am looking for a workaround due to budget reasons and would really appreciate if you know of any.
No problem! Hmmmm. Most popular one is mailchimp.
With mailchimp you have to pay for autoresponders, is there a way to set up these fields without autoresponders, or is there a legitimate service with free autroresponders?
if by autoresponders you mean event-based triggers i.e. clicks, opens, etc then no, “autoresponder” is not free on mailchimp. but if you’re looking for way to let users sign up and send them a welcome message when they sign up, then I think mailchimp’s free plan has you covered.
you can also take a look at Wysija Newsletter plugin.
Hmm, all I am trying to do is add extra fields to the sign up form. Can this be done without autoresponders?
Yes, mailchimp allows you to add extra fields in your sign up form.
I’m guessing you’re a bit confused why you should be adding extra fields in mailchimp (or whatever autoresponder/newsletter service you are using) and not in magic action box plugin.
well, magic action box doesn’t deal with the subscribing and creating fields stuff. what it does is it “takes” the raw html form code from the autoresponders/newsletter service and makes it beautiful. magic action box also makes it very easy to insert the opt in forms before or after blog posts and pages.
so, just like dean said, add whatever fields you want using your autoresponder’s form creation tool/designer, then export the raw html form code from them and paste that code when you create an action box. Again, see the quick start guide like Dean said: http://www.magicactionbox.com/quick-start-guide/
I have been working on this for a while, I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I got the html code, posted it in the Magic Action Box copy/paste function, processed code, nothing changed. What do you suggest to do?
Add the additional fields using mailchimp. http://kb.mailchimp.com/article/how-do-i-add-more-fields-to-my-list
Only then should you get the html code. You are using mailchimp aren’t you? if not, then ask your newsletter service provider how to add addtional fields.
You can google for more tutorials on how to add additional fields in mailchimp (or whatever newsletter service you are using)
I added the fields in my signup form, and copied the html into Magic Action Box. The fields show up in Mail Chimp but not in Magic Action Box…Do you have any ideas?
don’t choose the Super Slim option when getting the embed code from mailchimp. choose the Nake Form option.
I did that, it changed the format, but still doesnt have the new fields…
Here is the code from mail chimp
‘<!– Begin MailChimp Signup Form –>
<form action=”http://wedivine.us7.list-manage.com/subscribe/post?u=c490006ac3a8898ff59d5837e&id=e9269fff7f” method=”post” id=”mc-embedded-subscribe-form” name=”mc-embedded-subscribe-form” class=”validate” target=”_blank” novalidate>
<h2>Subscribe to our mailing list</h2>
<div class=”indicates-required”><span class=”asterisk”>*</span> indicates required</div>
<label for=”mce-EMAIL”>Email Address <span class=”asterisk”>*</span>
<input type=”email” value=”” name=”EMAIL” class=”required email” id=”mce-EMAIL”>
<div id=”mce-responses” class=”clear”>
<div class=”response” id=”mce-error-response” style=”display:none”></div>
<div class=”response” id=”mce-success-response” style=”display:none”></div>
</div> <div class=”clear”><input type=”submit” value=”Subscribe” name=”subscribe” id=”mc-embedded-subscribe” class=”button”></div>
The fields I am trying to have are “Ask a FREE Psychic Question” “E-Mail” and “Name”
Am I doing something wrong?
Well, this code from mailchimp only has the email field. So, your action box will only show an email field too of course.
So, if you’re choosing the Naked Form option and not the Slim option, then only other question I have for you is – are you grabbing the html code from the correct email list?
Anyhow, I would suggest getting in touch with MailChimp support and ask them this question:
How do I get the html code for my form that has the additional form fields? I would like to get the embed code to paste on my website. Right now I’m only getting this form code:
<!-- Begin MailChimp Signup Form --> <div id="mc_embed_signup"> <form action="http://wedivine.us7.list-manage.com/subscribe/post?u=c490006ac3a8898ff59d5837e&id=e9269fff7f" method="post" id="mc-embedded-subscribe-form" name="mc-embedded-subscribe-form" class="validate" target="_blank" novalidate> <h2>Subscribe to our mailing list</h2> <div class="indicates-required"><span class="asterisk">*</span> indicates required</div> <div class="mc-field-group"> <label for="mce-EMAIL">Email Address <span class="asterisk">*</span> </label> <input type="email" value="" name="EMAIL" class="required email" id="mce-EMAIL"> </div> <div id="mce-responses" class="clear"> <div class="response" id="mce-error-response" style="display:none"></div> <div class="response" id="mce-success-response" style="display:none"></div> </div> <div class="clear"><input type="submit" value="Subscribe" name="subscribe" id="mc-embedded-subscribe" class="button"></div> </form> </div> <!--End mc_embed_signup-->
