  • I’d like to have some subfolders under my wp-upload folder, so I can categorize my post images a bit. Is there a way to select what folder to update an image to?

    Admin/Settings/Miscellaneous

Check “Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders”

And, no, you can’t choose. The appropriate folder is selected (or created) automatically.

    Ok, I am confused:

    Another poster here said :
    go to settings –> Miscellaneous

First, change the path wp-content/uploads to anything where you want to upload your files. Like:
    wp-content/uploads/trains/explorer
    and uncheck this option:
Organize my uploads into month- and year-based folders
So, your images will be directly uploaded to
wp-content/uploads/trains/explorer folder. Change this path when you want to change the folder..

Now I see that this is still using uploads/ something
but maybe this will work for what you need.

I am going to test this out tomorrow
as I want a different photos set up the the month year bit that WPgives us.

    maybe that helps?

The original poster wanted different sub-folders under the main upload folders. Sure you can specify a different uploads folder but you can’t upload image A to sub-folder ‘foo’ and decide 5 minutes later to upload image 2 to the bar sub-folder.

Thanks all. Sure does seem like it would be something WP should implement.
