Support » Everything else WordPress » How accurate is the “Active Installations” number?

I developed a plugin, and for the last month or two it’s been stating “Active Installations: 100+” on my plugin page. I find it hard to believe there are that many active installations.

When I do a Google Search for keywords that my plugin has on the front end, I only find ~ 30 sites. I realize that not all sites will have the pages indexed that contain my plugin, and it’s possible that the plugin is active and not set up correctly. This could explain why these sites/pages don’t show up in the search engines. Still, I’m just struggling to believe that the “active installations” is a close approximation.

    Any thoughts?

That number is based on the number of “checking for update” requests, so it’s probably more accurate than your google search.

    Step 1: Publish plugin.
    Step 2: ??
    Step 3: Profit.
