• I work in TEXT mode always – allows me to use PHP inline for, as an example, inserting repetitive content over multiple pages (using ‘include’ statements) etc. PLUS, I write code and this mode is native to me (not a button-pusher).

This plugin’s easy-to-use buttons only show up in VISUAL mode of course. While the shortcodes are still available to use manually in TEXT mode:
    1. one needs to know what the shortcodes syntax is;
    2. in my case, when the plugin was activated it caused complications in WP edit functionality (VISUAL unavailable, Distraction-Free somewhat hampered). Author and I unable to identify source.

I’m sorry to hear you’re so disappointed by the lack of buttons in the text editor. The shortcodes themselves should continue to work from there, though would require manual entry. If I were to add the buttons to the text editor, would you consider adjusting your rating?

I’d be happy to Phil, except…

To indulge the situation, I reactivated your Accordion Shortcodes plugin in order to give it a test run in the dreaded VISUAL mode (kidding, mostly). Very strange result. The tools menu along the top of the edit box simply fails to appear, and the page is BLANK (this, for an existing page with contents) . Switching back to Text mode, I find the new “Distraction Free Writing” mode now no longer works correctly. Specifically, the content edit window fails to expand to full screen vertically (smallish box with a vertical slider instead). I deactivated yoru plugin, back to normal. Reactivated, same problems – different file for testing this, even a new file.

I can only add that I am using VIZIO theme by Splashing Pixels (on WP 4.1), and perhaps this introduces some sort of arbitrary conflict. That theme is very full-featured and quite robust – including their own edit-tools button that is a drop-down menu of proprietary functions by that theme.

Which in turn includes: their OWN accordion function (I’d not even discovered, until this came up). I proceeded to try theirs, successfully as seen here:

But I digress. Any thoughts about the plugin complications Phil?

Unfortunately I don’t have a copy of the Vizio theme so I cannot speak the specific conflict. I have used this plugin on dozens of sites, each running a different theme (including all the defaults WordPress themes Twenty Ten – Twenty Fifteen and many fully custom themes) all without issue. This plugin uses only standard WordPress hooks and filters to achieve it’s functionality.

My best guess is that this is an issue with the theme itself and not my plugin. You should be able to confirm this for yourself by switching to the Twenty Fifteen theme and reactivating my plugin. Everything should work as expected. The only way for me to be certain though, is to test with your theme. If you want to send me a copy of the theme (privately of course, since it’s a premium paid for theme) I’d be happy to look into it further and report any of my findings. If you’re interested, send the zip of all theme files to info [at] philbuchanan.com.

Here’s the theme demo page (also sent an email):

I’ve installed and activated the theme and the latest version of my plugin (2.1.1) in a fresh install of WordPress 4.1 and for the life of me I cannot reproduce the issues you are having. Here is a screenshot of the two living in perfect harmony together. Note the editor tool bar with buttons for accordion shortcodes and the Vizio buttons. I have also tested in a few browsers in case it might have been a weird browser related issue. Chrome, Safari and Firefox all work fine.

I am seeing a few PHP “Strict Standards” errors with the theme (related to the admin mega menu), but those shouldn’t be causing the issues you are seeing. There’s also a syntax error in admin-backend.min.js but again, I’m pretty sure that’s not causing the issues.

My next guess is that some other plugin is causing the conflicts, but I’m fairly confident it’s not my plugin.

On this side, I’ve deactivated ALL my plugins – and even switched to Twenty Fifteen theme. Same result, when your plugin is activated. I tested in both Add Page and Add Post. (And in Firefox and Chrome.)

I went one step further: I tested the plugin on a different website I built for a client – different theme, WP 4.1. Same result.

So, looks like we’re at an impasse here.
Disappointing; I’ve already used another accordion that works, but would like to get to the bottom of this case.

I’m glad you found an alternate solution, but I agree, I’d like to get to the bottom of this issue. I have this plugin running on about a dozen sites and none of them have issues. I really wish I could reproduce the error so I could at least start to track down what might be causing it.

Are you seeing any console errors on the affected pages? What version of PHP are you running?

    (@thorshammer)

Again, I WOULD like to know… however I have to balance that with other considerations. I think I’ve done what I can here, have to move along on this.

    I did update my rating…
