How about a LITE version for low end hosting and high traffic sites?
As I mentioned on another post, there used to be a thing called LitePress which was a performance plugin for WordPress 1.5
I think a WordPress Lite would be a very good idea, it would simply be a trimmed-down, bare-bones version of the current core keeping all the bloat and eye candy out to concentrate on serious performance.
A WordPress Lite would be an instant success with native Nginx, Xcache and memcached support, full and page fragment caching folded into the core and minimal queries per page.
