# hosting or wordpress errors?

 * hi, im new & just installed wordpress (i think!)
 * i can get to the admin pages ok….but
 * trying to install a theme i get:

 * trying to upload a picture to a page i get:
 * “Unable to create directory /home/sites/vip6343400/httpd/htdocs/wp-content/uploads/
   2010/03. Is its parent directory writable by the server?”
 * …is this an installation problem, hosting problem? sorry if the answer is obvious–
   i’m confused
 * i can edit the “text” of a page ok

 * This is a server configuration issue. Contact your hosting provider.
 * > Is its parent directory writable by the server?
 * Change the permissions on the wp-content directory to 766. If you still have 
   problems, try 767 or 777. Once your uploads are working, change the permissions
   on wp-content back to 755 again and check that everything still works OK.

 * the change to 767 fixed the image upload, cheers.
 * my hosting company have been slow to respond, but i got around the theme error
   downloading the theme to my laptop, then FTPing accross to the /themes folder
   🙂
