Horizonal footer menu (6 posts)

    I'm relatively new to wordpress and site design. I built my website, Clockworkfarms.com, in the 2011 theme (child theme)on a wordpress program loaded on my computer then uploaded the website to Bluehost. Everything worked fine on the Bluehost wordpress site except the horizonal footer menu. The footer menu works on my computer but will not display on the Bluehost site. Using firebug it appears that WordPress is ignoring the child footer.php template and is not loading the footer menu div added to the footer template. Can anyone help me with this problem?

    Code for child footer.php template:

    * The template for displaying the footer.
    * Contains the closing of the id=main div and all content after
    * @package WordPress
    * @subpackage Twenty_Eleven
    * @since Twenty Eleven 1.0

    </div><!-- #main -->

    <footer id="colophon" role="contentinfo">

    <div id="footerMenu">
    <?php wp_nav_menu( array( 'container_class' => 'menu-footer', 'theme_location' => 'footer' ) ); ?>

    if ( ! is_404() )
    get_sidebar( 'footer' );

    </footer><!-- #colophon -->
    </div><!-- #page -->

    <?php wp_footer(); ?>

    css for footer menu:

    #site-generator {
    display: none;

    #colophon {

    background-color: #152e4e;
    clear: both;
    float: left;
    width: 1000px;
    height: 40px;
    margin-left: o;
    padding-left: o;

    #supplementary {
    padding: 0;
    border-top: 1px solid #000000;

    #footerMenu {
    float: right;
    margin-top: 10px;
    padding-right: 30px;

    Have you checked and compared both the files (on local and bluehost). may be there's a upload problem as the div is not at all present on the bluehost site.

    That would be the problem; the footer menu is not showing up on the Bluehost wordpress site but is working on my computer version. As far as I can see I have identical coding. I originally uploaded everything from my computer. I tried uploading the footer template again and I tried recreating the child footer template within the Bluehost site. It doesn't recognize the footer div. This div shows up just under the colophon div on my computer version and gives me a nice horizontal footer menu. Guess I'll have to try to replicate the problem on my computer and go from there.

    It sounds like a CSS issue anyway, so try adding;

    /*Assuming there's a <div> around your <code><ul></code> element*/
    #footerMenu ul {
     display: block;
    #footerMenu li {
     float: left;

    Thanks for your help. Think I got it working. I had to backup and take a different approach but your suggestions help put me on the right track. I'm still fumbling around a lot and look forward to the day when I have at least some idea of what I'm doing. Thanks again.
