Homepage Slider Problem

I have my homepage set to show posts but this seems to mean that when I add things in the editor of the home page itself it is ignored and home just continues to show only posts.

I am trying to get a slider to appear above the posts by putting a shortcode on the page editor which is completely blank apart from that code.

Is there a way to make wordpress show that content with the posts below or a specific plugin that will show a slider at the top of all pages (below header image) regardless?
