Support » Installing WordPress » Homepage shortcode accidentally removed

  • Hey,

When I got WordPress, my home page had a shortcode that automatically showed a couple of recent posts. I’ve tried to find what shortcode this was for a long time, but I just can’t find it. Anyone who can help me?

Check your theme docs or look in functions.php for a possible shortcode.

Not really helpful as I don’t know what shortcode it is. I’m looking for a shortcode that shows the latest few posts on the page, and is automatically on WordPress (homepage) when it is installed.

I think you’re thinking of the Recent Posts widget: if you moved any widgets around (under Appearance > Widgets) that would’ve removed the default set. You can put it back on that same screen.

A shortcode is something you type in [square brackets] when you’re writing a post in the editor. The most common one is [gallery], but lots of themes and plugins add additional ones.
