homepage settings

I’m have an existing website [ http://www.pamlicoink.com ] not using WordPress and have built a new site with WordPress at http://www.pamlicoink.com/wordpress . . . now that I have the bugs more or less worked out on the design, etc. I want to have visitors go to the new page simply by going to my old address, pamlicoink.com. How can I make a smooth change over? Do I need to delete the old INDEX.HTML page that brings up the site and the move all the WordPress files from the WordPress folder and just put them on the server??? Will that work or will it mess up all the links I’ve set up. In other words, will things such as pages and comments still search for the http://www.pamlicoink.com/wordpress link or will they not????? To make it clear, I want people to pull up the new WordPress site when they type in http://www.pamlicoink.com . . . hope this is clear . . .
