• Very new to WP and I am trying to make sense of the way it works.

Here is my issue. I have my site set up for a blog. my only purpose of this website is to create my blog. I have upload my first post to my site and it shows up fine when you type in the web address. However, if you click on another tab like about me, then click the homepage tab, my post does not show up in full text on the page like it did when you first type in my web address. It DOES show on the right side in “recent” posts. Why does it do this? Can my homepage be set to only show my most recent blog post all the time whether you type it in at the address bar or you are clicking through my different links on my sight.

  • Can you supply a URL so I can see what you’re talking about?

Yes. You probably created a page for your home page right? If so that is not what you do for a blog homepage. Wp will create it automatically.

As for just displaying the excerpt, if my assumptions are correct, in your index.php it is getting the excerpt and not the full post.

Under settings>reading I believe what is selected for your blog homepage?

I think lerizzle has it here.

Check your Settings>Reading, and make sure that Front page displays: Your latest posts is checked.

This is the default setting for WordPress, and it automatically sets the home page (called Front page) to display the blog. If you’ve changed it in any way to specify another page as “Home” then you will not see blog posts, just a blank page.

Ok I checked the setting and they are set up correctly but it still does not seem to work right. I used a theme tp set this up. Here is the URL:
    Adventuresofjohn.com

Well, for sure the link in your main navigation points to a page (other than the blog) because it shows this address: http://adventuresofjohn.com/?page_id=1 plus the tab says HOMEPAGE which is not something you’d get with WordPress out-of-the-box.

Did you create a custom menu so that you could create your own tab named HOMEPAGE? If so, try deselecting the custom menu (reverting to the default manu system) and see if that gets you a proper “Home” button that points to the blog.

The theme I am using is the Carrington Blog 2.2. There is not a custom menu. How do I change it to a default homepage, should I delete the homepage and recreate another one. Is that possible?

Also in the permalink section it shows the default for the homepage as stated above.
